Dining Comments: If you are in before 5pm and want to try an amazing place, Ronnie's ribs, wings and other things on 25th and main... I've had ribs everywhere and love the usual but this was a whole new level of good food. DO Not eat at Havana 59 or something.. food was awful. However great Ethiopian and Thai across the street. "the pizza place" sux but good deep dish near there. forgot the name of it.
Entertainment Comments: Shockoe Bottom... huge area of bars and food.

Dining Comments: I recommend the Village Cafe, 1001 West Grace St. Pretty good atmosphere and a lot of choices on the menu. There's a lot of other restaurant choices in the area and on the way if you're more comfortable with a chain. For food/beer, Davis Market is a convenience store a half block away at 301 W Grace St.
Entertainment Comments: There's a few good bars to go to if you read the previous comments.

Dining Comments: If you are here during the day and want brunch, Go to Tarrant's Cafe on Broad St. I had the crabcake eggs Benedict. It was the best breakfast I have ever had. Its a bar also.
Entertainment Comments: Broad street has pubs.

Dining Comments: I highly recommend Perlys for a good cafe. I insist you go to Capitol Ale House if you like a good pub with great German Food. Around 60 microbrew beers on tap, most of which I have never heard of. If you only drink Miller Lite, do not bother coming here. We do not want you. I have been to a lot of bars all around the world, and this one is excellent. They even have a river of ice that sits along the entire middle portion of the bar to keep your beer cool.
Entertainment Comments: YMCA with full workout center and a great pool. It is free if you or one of your crew-members has a membership.

Dining Comments: Chili's and Starbucks 2 blocks behind the hotel, on the VCU campus.
Entertainment Comments: Not much going on in downtown Richmond.

Dining Comments: See other post.
Entertainment Comments: Used to be a great place to get in a workout.

Dining Comments: HIGHLY suggest a small local restaurant called "Comfort". It is a 5 minute walk from the hotel and offers southern style cooking and a menu that changes daily. Lots of good food. Only open for lunch and dinner. Closes each afternoon and reopens for dinner at 5:30pm.
Entertainment Comments: Free pass to the local YMCA which offers a complete cardio room, weight machines, free weights, pool, etc. Less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

Dining Comments: There's a diner down the road, may have already been mentioned, can't remember the name but it is on the corner and used to be an old civil war hospital. Good food, interesting people with too many piercing to make it through airport security. Also, the Rich Brau. Microbrewery with good beer and good burgers.
Entertainment Comments: Shockoe Bottom Brick road, tons of bars, shops. Penny Lane. A pub down the road from the hotel. The only problem is it's a Beetles theme pub and they play pretty much only Beetles music.

Dining Comments: Perly's. Ask at front desk for directions. Not too far. Good home cooking w/ "comfort" foods like chicken & dumplings, corned beef, etc. all home-made. Great ambience. VERY reasonable prices. Huge sandwiches. When I was getting ready to leave, the waitress asked me if I wanted some coffee to go!
Entertainment Comments: Go into the Jefferson Hotel right down the street from the hotel. It's an old classic totally redone inside. It's fabulous.

Dining Comments: Hotel restaurant is expensive. Go downtown or to Carytown (see below).
Entertainment Comments: The hotel is in downtown Richmond near the VCU campus. About 8 blocks east is the Shockoe Slip and Bottom area, with lots of restaurants and bars. Capital Ale House has a good house brew, and Cafe Europa has good food. Many places to eat here. West of the hotel in Carytown there are lots more little shops and restaurants, inlcuding a great Thai place. You could easily spend an afternoon and evening in either of these places. The hotel van will take you time permitting, otherwise it's a cheap taxi ride.

|
Dining Comments: Not much around the hotel at all.
Entertainment Comments: Hotel will provide transportation to the Shockobottom (Sp?) area where there are plenty of places to eat and places to see. Kind of far to walk. This is Richmond's main nightlife area. This area was pretty much destroyed this past summer by flooding from the remanants of one of the hurricanes and is still being rebuilt. Hotel people say it's still not worth going down there right now (12/04).
