FREE Alaska Airlines Flight Attendant Interview Information and Gouge
Interview experience:
Hello Everyone. I completed the online part of the interview process on www.alaskaair.com. Then I was asked to pick a date for an interview. They emailed me the application that must be completed prior to your interview. The application only prints properly on a laserjet printer, your home deskjet printer will mess it up. The interview process was to begin at 9am and I got there at 6:30. No one else arrived until about 7:30 which is what time the Alaska crew showed up. They were all super nice and there were three FA's and three recruiters. I signed in an hung out in a room as others came in. I smiled a lot and chatted with the other canidates and noticed that we were watched the entire time. About 75 people showed up. At 9, they came in and introduced themselves and spent about 45 minutes explaining the interview process and the job of being an F/A. I sat up front, paid attention and smiled. They then gave us a 5 minute break and we had to report to another room and the room we belonged in depended on our arrival time, because I was first I was in room A. There were 25 others in this room along with two F/A's and a recruiter. We had to arrange ourselves in alphabetical order. Then we had to stand up, state our name, spell our name and tell them our favorite job and why it was our favorite job. This took forever because people were giving their life history. I was up and down in less than 1 minute and I was choosen to continue. Those that spilled their guts were not asked to continue.....so, the lesson here, FOLLOW DIRECTIONS. Then they broke us into groups of three. We were given a problem to deal with and then were questions both as a group and individually as to what our solution would be. These were standard everyday issues (too many bags, too much to drink, etc). Then we had a 30 minute break where we were still being watched and had to sign an EEO form for the government. They called everyone in the room and read approximately 14 names. I was one of them. They collected our paperwork (applications) and reviewed them to ensure that they were complete. Then, they said we had been selected to move on. I arrived for my one-on-one interview at on March 3. My interview was at 8 and I got there at 6:30. I do not know if it did any good to be that early, but hey, better than late. A few other one-on-one people showed up (5 total) and we waited together outside the interview rooms. About 7:30 the crew from Alaska arrived and it was the same group from my last interview. My interview with Erin (great lady) began at 8am. We first went over the minimum qualifications, then reviewed each job I had ever had. Basic questions, why did you leave, did you give two weeks notice. Then she asked me a few other questions: what is a disadvantage to being a flight attendant, what scares you most about this position, are you ready for the pay cut (a big one for me), is your personal life ready for the change, what was your favorite job and why, where do you see yourself in five years, why Alaska Airlines, how long are you going to be a flight attendant, and, any questions for Alaska. Those were the exact questions I was asked so have a good idea how to answer them. Then I was sent to the lobby to wait on a verdict. About 45 minutes later I was invited to a noon panel interview. Waiting for the panel was the worst experience of my life. Great people to wait with but I was so nervous, my goodness, this could actually happen :-) Panel started right at noon, there were six of us and four of them. Three of them were observers and one was the questioner. Again, I was the only guy. First they made us arrange cities on the floor in their approximate geographic area. I kind of took control of this since I was Geography/Environmental Planning major in college. We as a group did well. Then, broke us into groups of three and gave of 12 situational cards. These included, vomit, fatigue, uncertain schedules, terror, etc. We had to put them into piles of easy to deal with, and hard to deal with. No right or wrong in this exercise, but the questioner will ask each person 3-5 questions about why the groups are the way they are. One question I was asked was "you put terror threat in the hard to deal with pile, how do you get by since 9/11 now that we are under a threat of terror" Basically I said I believe in fate. Whether this is right or wrong I do not know but this is what I said. Lastly, we were each given an on plane situation and the questioner acted as a mean passenger and we had to deal with it. Too many carry on, too much to drink, too large for the exit row, etc. Again, no real wrong answer here just be sure to acknowledge and stay on message. We then waited over an hour and they invited us all back in the room. They then told us for the first time in years they were selecting everyone in the panel. We were so happy. Then they drug tested us and took our finger prints and gave us a lot of forms to take home and fill out and mail to them. They gave us a training date of 4-12. I am just waiting for everything to clear, then I will get exicted. Just an update. Alaska, tests for Nicotine I had quit smoking weeks before and still tested POZ for nicotine ... hence I did not go to training.to get the remaining 2 gouges on Alaska Airlines.
