Interview experience:
There was a group of around 40 people of all ages, you get emails telling you all the information you need to fly in (I interviewed at Newark) and hotels, instructions to get to the iinterview site and everything. We waited across gates 120, 121 in C concourse in EWR and then were escorted downstairs to the rooms where the interviews are held. Almosphere is very friendly, relaxed and the personnel makes you feel welcome.
They started with a company introduction, a video and job description, then questions and answers and that stuff. As always, some interviewee will as a dumbass question that will make you laugh! Anyways, then they proceeded to call 5 - 6 people at a time for a dynamic, held in another room with a round table. They give you some cards with some events that happen onboard an airplane and you have to sort them by priority order (as a group) and discuss among the other people in the table as to what do you think. It's all a strategy the interviewers use to see how you interact with the others and express your point of view without "stepping" on others or impose your criteria.
After this you're back to the main room and then called for a one on one interview. After this, if successful, the interviewer gives you a little paper strip inviting you to the afternoon process. This is good news! However it doesn't mean you're hired yet. If at any point they tell you they will let you know via email, YOU ARE NOT HIRED.
After lunch we met again, this time the group had been reduced to 8! We went downstairs again and then had another one on one interview with a different interviewer. Very friendly people all over! After this interview they send you to some small break room where noone else can see you. Now the group was reduced to 6.
From this small break room they call you to the FINAL interview, and this is a panel interview. There was the hiring supervisor for Newark, and two more people, a lady and a guy who are flight attendant base supervisors from both Newark and Houston headquarters. They are very nice and non intimidating. They proceeded to ask some more questions, asking if I was sure I wanted to be an FA for Continental and why, why Continental? At the end they offer to answer any questions and also want to hear any comments you may have. The Newark hiring supervisor then told me that he was very pleased to invite me to training as well as the other two supervisors (as they smiled at me). I was so happy I almost cried, and said Yes, I accept the invitation.
It was the happiest day ever! (Or one of them!!)
This was more than a year ago, and I still treasure it as a precious jewel. I encourage everyone to interview and give the best of yourselves. Hiring is still halted due to the oil crisis (it's July 2008 now) but things will get better. Keep checking the careers website. I know we'll hire again when the situation gets better!!! Good luck!!!
