Hotel Comments: good bed
good pillows
free internet
subways 1 block away
Gym is small.. right by pool, so kinda hot. has cardio and dumbells up to 50 lbs.
Dining Comments: see prev.
Entertainment Comments: see prev.
Hotel Comments: Gym on the 7th floor. Not bad as far as hotel gyms go.
Dining Comments: There is a new coffee shop called The Ohio Coffee Co. right by the Spaghetti Warehouse. They are coming out with a big lunch menu with extensive sandwich choices. They are also applying for a beer and liquor license, and are planning on introducing live music in the future. Spoke with the owner, Rob, for a while. Really nice guy with a lot of vision for this place. Stop by and support him.
Entertainment Comments: Wiley's Comedy Club...This is right in the Oregon District. I've been there twice on Saturday night layovers and had a great time on both nights.
Hotel Comments: Great beds.
Dining Comments: Walk across street towards CVS and the Plaza at lunch time during the week and find outdoor vendors, good cheap food.
Entertainment Comments: People watch on the square.
Hotel Comments: The front desk staff at this hotel has been less pleasant during my last 3 visits here.
We had a van driver nearly lose control of the vehicle 2 times during during the trip from the airport to the hotel in inclement weather. We asked him to drive more slowly after the second incident. He responded that he didn't need to because it wasn't his fault that the roads were slippery. When we complained at the front desk upon arrival we learned he was one of the managers and a member of the family who owned the hotel. If told to take a cab (possible) consider yourself lucky and safer.
We also witnessed a mugging of an elderly man in front of the hotel at night so be careful.
Van will drive you if you ask.
Dining Comments: Spaghetti warehouse.
Entertainment Comments: If you have time ask the staff about traveling to the Air Force museum. They will take you.
Hotel Comments: Very clean and hospitable 20% discount on food. Weekends do suck there but you have to be adventurous. Not a lot of food available at night. Not as bad as everyone says it is.
Dining Comments: During the week Greek diner next door to the right. Embassy diner, great food, cheap prices. Home cooked American diner cuisine, cold beer and cheeseburgers a few blocks away is also good.. beats the tired overpriced spaghetti warehouse,19 dollars for a plate of spaghetti? forget that. Just ask, they will tell you where to go.
Entertainment Comments: Wow a lot by the hotel, just explore. J Allens pub a block from the hotel to the left as you walk out the front door, cheap drinks without walking miles or taking a taxi. Cheap drinks, good times, blues/jazz bar free cover for xjet crew on the weekends and drink specials for airline crew. Also live blues and jazz bands Tell them you are airline crew they love us there. If not into bars.. there is more to do, museums air and automobile. No shopping nearby though
Hotel Comments: Decent hotel in the center of downtown Dayton. Just don't get caught here on a Sunday, as EVERYTHING is closed. Typical Double Tree in an old building (one of the oldest in Dayton, according to the front desk) Rooms are clean, good beds, etc. Gym is alright. Located on the 7th floor with the pool and sauna area, it has a single treadmill, stationary bike, and a couple ellipticals. Not much for weight training, though; just a single set of dumbbells.
Dining Comments: A few sandwich and lunch-type places on main street, although don't rely on them being open on the weekends. Head down to the Oregon district for more choices. Quite a few bars and the Dublin Pub, which has great food and reasonable prices. Dublin Pub usually has live music on the weekends. There's also a restaurant in the Hotel, the Polo Grill.
Entertainment Comments: Air museum--free transportation provided by the hotel
Walk around downtown. Eat. Sleep. TV.
Hotel Comments: Hotel is your standard Doubletree. Van was waiting for us when we were outside with the room keys and cookies (though cold) ready. Nice room with comfortable bed. I slept in and did wake up with some slamming doors in the morning though.
Dining Comments: Go to Thai 9 if you want to have a really tasty lunch. They're open from 10 to 2:30pm for lunch (I believe) but also have a dinner menu that I didn't check out. This place has some great food and you can get lunch for under $10. The menu has sushi and a wide variety of Thai dishes. They'll make the spiciness to your liking too. Try the coconut ice cream for dessert, it's great!
Entertainment Comments: Didn't do much except take a walk to the Oregon District and eat. There seemed to be a decent selection of shops and restaurants in that area, though I would be a bit hesitant to venture out in the dark. It was daytime when we went and there were no worries at that time.
Hotel Comments: BE Careful Downtown Dayton is not the safest area to be wandering around, esp by yourself. An elderly guest at the hotel was mugged and roughed up while looking for a place to eat while I was staying there!!!
Dining Comments: Spaghetti Warehouse, they make pretty good Sangria!
Entertainment Comments: Air Force Museum, expect to spend a better part of the day the place is huge
Hotel Comments: Great. New renovations nice rooms and beds.
Dining Comments: During the week and daytime Embassy diner right next door to the right Greek diner great food and really inexpensive. Spaghetti Warehouse few blocks away. Cold beer and cheeseburger bar. Really that is the name of the place.. a short walking distance away and a great dive bar right across the street called the Century Bar with cheap beers and drinks. Also a bar to the left of the hotel next to the subway sandwich shop..tell them you are flight crew.. that also has great drink specials and live blues bands as well as the Oregon District with tons to do all within walking distance
Entertainment Comments: See above. Not a bad overnight.
Hotel Comments: Beautiful room, but the plug for hairdryer and curling iron in dangerous place. Across from the toilet??? If curling iron was dropped in toilet....bad news.
Otherwise nice bed and beautiful room.
Dining Comments: Didn't eat there -had long day before, just went to bed
Entertainment Comments: Didn't explore
Hotel Comments: They were remodeling the hotel the last time I was there. Construction noise woke me up at 7am.
Dining Comments: Dublin's Irish Pub and Grill in the Oregon district. Good food and drink. Live music some nights mostly on weekends.
Entertainment Comments: There's a movie theater nearby that plays Indi films and serves alcohol. The Oregon district is a nice little area to do some shopping. A few thrift shops and hole in the wall food places. Also a comedy club.
Hotel Comments: Harborlink free wireless internet available. I got the free password from the front desk, but it stopped working and I found the harborlink connection. Works great.
Dining Comments: subway
Entertainment Comments: subway
Hotel Comments: Ask the front desk for a free user name and password for the high-speed internet service. Rumor has it that our contract with the hotel allows them to waive the $9.95 fee.
Dining Comments: Quite a few restaurants within walking distance. Just don't go out alone at night.
Entertainment Comments: Air Force Museum
