These study guide questions were submitted by real pilots who actually interviewed with jetBlue

  1. Tell us some background information about yourself.
Grew up in a small town, went to a public school, served in the military, have a bachelors degree and have been in the aviation business for 13 years.
I went to the AF Academy
  2. Give an example of when you had a conflict with a coworker who resisted your instructions and how you worked it out.
I talked about a time a fellow instructor and I disagreed on how to best teach a subject. We agreed to try both ways and see which one the students responded to best and use that method moving forward.
  3. Tell when you used humor to diffuse a situation.
Once at my fraternity one of my brothers was getting in a pretty loud argument with a random person at a party one night. The argument was over sports, so I split them up and sidetracked the argument by joking about how the argument was irrelevant because real men don't care about soccer and only argue about sports that matter like baseball and football.
  4. Tell about a time when you helped someone overcome a technical challenge in the aircraft (and describe the outcome).
Helped classmates that were falling behind during training. They appreciate it greatly.
  5. Tell about a time you had to make a quick decision.
Talked about flying to destination airport with unforecasted ceilings below mins. Went missed approach 2 times and had to decide whether or not to attempt a 3rd approach (plane before me was barely able to sneak in), divert to alternate that had lower than expected ceilings slightly above mins, or divert to unplanned alternate.
  6. Tell me about a time you displayed one of JetBlue's values.
When things are bad, and not going well , I would have to agree with the above answer. Lighten the mood, talk positive about the situation or tell a joke.
On this question, it was more specifically stated about the most recent time that I displayed the core values. I described a recent flight in which things were not going as well as they could have, and the crew is starting to get bitter. I started joking around and trying to make it fun, regardless of the situation. By the end of the flight, everyone was having a good time and we all went out together.
  7. Tell me about how you started flying.
The passion had always been there. Started off small as kid and the wow factor, to traveling and flying. Always thought it was for Military until I started researching more and more. Took my first Discovery flight and was hooked ever since. Resigned from my position at work, started flight training and never looked back.
    Local flight school.
  8. Tell me about a time that you had the most fun at work.
I flew a 3-day trip with an all-female crew. The whole trip was plagued with delays, reroutes, and cancellations but we still made the most of it. By far one of the better trips I've had at my airline.
delayed flight turned into flying on off day, made situation better by enjoying time together
  9. Tell me about a time that you went above and beyond for a customer.
I was commuting to work in uniform. My flight was delayed due to ATC flow delays. There was a pax who asked me about her connection to Milan and if she would make it. Working with another pilot, we were able to contact airline dispatch and determined that they were conducting soft connections. A program based on arrival times; if a plane is scheduled to get in an hour early, they'll hold the aircraft for an hour so pax can make their connection. Although it wasn't 100% guaranteed, the lady was thankful for our assistance.
The customer was requesting a helicopter from u, but none were available. I offered to use our smaller fixed wing asset, and because that was all that was available, they excepted. I provided excellent service at a level that was not expected, and because of that, they requested more and more services from us which boosted our statistics for the year by a lot.
  10. Tell me about a time that you represented the company.
Every time I commute in uniform I'm representing the company and have to answer passenger questions while I'm really just a passenger myself.
