ASTAR Air Cargo FREE Pilot Interview Information and Gouge
Interview experience:
DHL, was rebranded into Astar Air Cargo last year(2003). My first interview with them was in March of 2001 in CVG. To the best of my knowledge they did not hire anyone who interviewed at that time, I believe we were put into a qualified applicant pool for future classes. In January (2004) I was called and ask if I was still interested in a flight officer position and was informed I would have to re-interview and take another simulator evaluation. I arrived in CVG the night before and stayed at the Country Inn, they will pick you up at CVG and it is a 2 minute walk to the Astar Airline operations Training Center. The room was great and they had a nice Cont. breakfast all for 55/nite. When I arrived at the interview the next morning I was busy filling out the customary application, PIRA background information while waiting for my personal interview. All of my information was checked by a young lady form HR to be sure I had all the required documents needed for the interview. Then came the interview with A Pilot rep and an HR rep, I was ask your typical personal questions trying to fill in the blanks on employment since the 2001 interview while the Pilot looked at my log books. I believe it was more a "what have you done in the last 3 years" type interview, because they still retained all of the notes from my last interview. You will have to resign your senority number from another carrier if hired. The whole process was painless and very friendly. Next came the sim ride in a 727, we recieved a great breifing including approachs at IND and power settings and profiles. We took off 5L at IND climed to 5000ft whith some turns on the way up. I accelerated to 250kts for a series of steep turns and then given a heading to brickyard to hold as published. Out of the hold we shot an ILS to 5L or 5R, i really dont remember. Thats it game over. The Big thing on the sim ride is a good take off brief, use all the calls that you use at the company you currently work for, before take off checks, set climb power, after take off checks, decent or in range checks and before landing checks. Also confirm with the FO and FE the holding entry, use good CRM, delegate task like atis and checklist, out/off times ect... and finally do a good approach brief, transfer controls and take your time with it, its not a race. Everyone I encountered that day was very professional and really nice, they worked hard to make sure you were comfortable. I hope to hear something soon because even with a name change I believe it would be an awsome place to work!Click here to get the remaining 1 gouges on ASTAR Air Cargo.
