Airborne Express Pilot Interview:

I received the call for the interview on Dec. 26th, for a Jan 11th interview.

We know that Airborne has good equipment, good schedules, and nice pay, why else do you want to work for us.

Who are your to three airlines?

How do you feel about night flying?

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Have you flown with a difficult person?

How did you handle this person?

Have you interviewed with other airlines?

Do you know what our first year pay is? (27,800 roughly)

What do you think about LOFT training?

Define Qfe- Height above airport elevation (or runway threshold elevation) Based on local station pressure.

I had flown a Fokker 27, that had RR-dart 537r, they used to have YS-11’s same engine. So I was asked a few technical questions on the Dart.

Do you have any questions for us?

After the interview I was escorted to a waiting area while they reviewed the notes that they had taken, too decide if they would like to invite you to come back for the simulator. I got an invite.

Friday Jan 12th.

I got the DC-9 simulator. Gone are the days of how many of their calls you make. They are just want to see you skills. Before I got in the simulator we went over power settings, pitch attitude. etc.

Normal take off climb to 6000 ft.

Steep turns 45-degree bank 180 degrees bank with an immediate course reversal of 180 degrees.

After that I was cleared to the cubla NDB to hold north on the 180 degree bearing to the station. I passed off the controls figured out the hold, and maid sure to get an EFC time. As I was going to the NDB, I was asked what type of entry? I answered correctly, after passing the station, starting the time; I was asked which direction was my next turn? I answered correctly.

Then I was vectored for The Vor wry 4L approach. Make sure to have your VDPs calculated!!!!!!!!!!!
After passing the VDP I informed the sim instructor that we had passed the VDP. He wanted me to continue to the MAP, (VOR).

After going missed I was given vectors for the ILS 4L. On all of the approaches I asked if he wanted me to brief the approach, He told me that he has herd it a few times before, for me to look at it until I was comfortable. When we got to the DA, the interview was over, he asked if I wanted to try to land it. I did.

I herd that it takes 6-8 weeks to here.
