Got the call to test at the beginning of March completely out of the blue. I spent a few days cramming and studying the gouge (a lot of which was wrong) and passed it online. They immediately called me back and set up an interview date for the next week. They did NOT supply any kind of transportation/lodging, although they got us the company discount at the Airport Marriot in MIA. The interview e-mail said to study the 2011 Annual Report from their website, which I did. I wasn't asked a single question about that report during the whole process.

A crew bus comes to pick you up at 0640, and they walk you to the headquarters. We all met in a conference room and were shown a company video to convince us to work for them. The class (about 12-15?) was split in two with half going straight to the interviews and the other half (mine) staying for the writing sample. The question was "Compare the assumed temperature method and derated thrust method of reduced power takeoffs". I had NO IDEA at all what that meant, so I just made my best guess and tried not to sound like an idiot while mentioning safety and professionalism a lot.

The first interview room was a resume' review. It lasted 20 minutes and was just a basic review of what I had down. Did I use a conversion? If so, how much (.2/mil sortie)? Availability, address, and license review. They made a point of telling us that we were NOT required to bring our logbooks, and they didn't ask anything about it aside from what was on the resume'. I did bring a spreadsheet printout just in case, but they didn't ask for it.

The second interview room was the technical part. Also 20 minutes.  I didn't feel all that great about this part, mainly because it was a lot of Jepps stuff and international NOTAM/Wx stuff that I've never used before (military), but it was fairly straightforward. I know for a fact that I blew a fairly easy question on an ILS and another on obstacle clearance distances on a DME arc, but other than that it was fairly low stress.

The last interview room was a panel (HR, management, and Union pilot rep). Very nice, friendly, and polite the whole time. Standard questions about why Atlas and what would I do if the Captain was drunk, etc. The only questions that caught me a little off guard was "What do you see as the role of Unions in aviation?" and "What would you do if, during a layover, a local started giving you a hard time about Atlas stealing local jobs?". I told them that I'd stick up for the company politely, change the subject to sports, and buy the guy a beer. That seemed to work fine. The pilot rep was also military and he pushed me a little on an interservice rivalry bit trying to get me to talk it right back to him (which I did). He laughed and traded stories with me until the time (40 minutes) ran out.

The company gave us lunch in the conference room and a Captain came in to answer any questions we might have and generally just shoot the breeze a little. Super nice folks all around the facility. They gave us a tour of the sims and the classrooms and that was about it. It was a very pleasant experience, although I was pretty stressed out about it.

I got an e-mail two days later saying that I had "sucessfully completed the interview process and would be offered a class date when one becomes available", or words to that effect. Despite what is listed above, I do not have a class date yet. The website wouldn't let me leave it blank.

 A couple of admin notes:

They say the interview lasts until 1800. We were done by 1300, but I'm not sure if that's the norm or not. Some of the guys brought their baggage with them and kept it at the front desk. I didn't, but I wish that I had. I ended up going back to the hotel where they stored it for me for free, but it cost me a trip.

 There was NO SIMULATOR ride.

There weren’t any business questions aside from very basic knowledge about the company (like what you can read here in 5 minutes).
