Hawaiian Airlines Pilot Interview:
Had a current HA Captain friend walk in my resume to CPO in May. Got the call in early July to interview in Mid July. Told to bring current ATP cert, 1st class medical, and and resume. NO LOG BOOKS NEEDED.
When you get there you give your stuff to the receptionist so she can make copies and she gives you an event report and mock summary of a problem to fill out while you wait. Half hour later you go into the Board interview and Meet with 2 Captains, a HR rep, a Flight Attendant, and a Dispatcher rep.
Only one or two TMAT questions and NO TECHNICAL QUES. Only quest to get to know you. Lasted about 20 minutes.
Tell us about your flying career. Will you move to Hawaii if hired, have you applied to HA in the past, will you apply to other Hawaiian carriers if not hired by us. 5 words to describe yourself. What's your greatest accomplishment. Have u ever gone over and beyond the call of duty. What set's you apart from the other 2,000 applicants. Ever had a flight where you would have done something different. What aircraft would you pick?
Sim ride is in a Elite Computer based trainer (MD 80) with yoke and single throttle. You get briefed on the appch plate. Take off from LAX west bound and climb to 5,000 at 250kts. Immediately do two 180degree steep turns. Fly direct to SMO Vor and hold, 1 turn in holding and vectors to ILS and land.
Meet w/ Chief Pilot and he tells you about how you're so lucky to be here. A couple thousand applicants, interviewing +/- 400 to fill +/- 30 spots. If successful, put in the pool for future hiring next year.
ONLY A SELECT FEW MAKE IT TO PHASE TWO
Phase two, all day event! Take psych tests all morning and then meet with the group after lunch. Introduce the person sitting next to you, pick a toy and tell why you like it. Meet with all the current pilots in the CPO and have another one on one interview with all of them.
