Did the online app. in Feb 2001. got a letter in May 01 to come and take the 1st phase test at the NWA headquarters in MN the last week of May 01. NWA flys you to MN, you pay for the hotel etc. Wear an interview suit etc. for the test as if you're going to interview that day...make a good first impression!! About 100 of us for the test that day...all in the "interview suits". Company folks give you a quick overview on the company...any questions...then the test. It's a "rate yourself" on the following situations etc. test. Can't get anymore specific as I signed a piece of paper stating I wouldn't disclose the actual test info. BE HONEST in your answers!! Got a call middle of June for part II interview...simulator/face-to-face interview. Scheduled for 3 July 01 and again they flew me to MN and I paid for the hotel etc. Early morning show, meet sim partner, go to the sim brief with a retired NWA Captain as the sim operator. If you can...pick the left seat and go first on the sim. 727 sim was the norm for my group. Settle in, get the clearance...use CRM!!! Take off, climb, hold, approach, land...pause...switch seats etc. for sim partner to do their gig. Sim over (they don't let you know how you did). Go back out and wait for the call to go face-to-face interview. Everyone I spoke with that day felt they did aweful in the sim (standard...727 flies like a truck) even the new hires I spoke to felt that way. Anyway, NWA FO comes to get me...on my interview I had an NWA Captain, NWA FO and two HR folks in the room. I forgot to mention...everyone was GREAT!! Make you feel at ease and that they trully want to hire you!! In the interview; Give them all required paperwork and copies of said paperwork, log books, letters of recommendation...etc. They all take turns asking questions and also just chatting to get to know you (could they survive a long trip with you etc.). They ask company specific questions..."name an NWA first"..."how would you handle X situation:...read this METAR...what does this mean in this METAR? How do you think the sim went today? What can you offer NWA? Describe yourself...tell us about your flying background...where would you like to be based? Why NWA? What did our stock close at yesterday? When can you attend training? Along with other various "interview" questions. Do you have any questions for us? Thank you please go sit here and we'll be with you in a little while. They interviewed 4 of us that day and the 1st guy got the job...the second didn't. The 3rd guy got the job...the 4th (me) didn't. They tell you that day if you have it or not. I was asked to come back in 6 months to re-interview. Overall...a GREAT company and a professional interview process. Have all your ducks in a row and if you can...get some 727 (or whatever sim they are using) practice time. I believe they rent out the 727 sim there as my partner practiced the night prior...he did much better than I did in my opinion, when it counted...$ well spent I guess as he was the 3rd guy and hired. It was a wonderful experience and when they begin hiring again you can bet I'll be in line to re-interview!! I'd love to hang my hat at NWA...a great bunch-O-folks in my opinion and a great airline to have a career with. Didn't get the job but didn't feel like a total faliure either. Study the company and know it clod. Go to their website and learn EVERYTHING about NWA!! Know your technical stuff too...approach plates...METARS etc. Hope this helps any/all who aspire to NWA.
