FREE Air Wisconsin Pilot Interview Information and Gouge

Interview experience:

I got my an interview from a career fair and was given the choice of locations to interview (DCA, PHL, or ATW). I chose DCA.  I stayed at the Radisson - Reagan National Airport which was only about a mile from the airport.  I chose this hotel because it had an airport shuttle and did not raise the price of the room even though I booked the day of my stay (many of the hotels there will only reserve a room if you pay a non-refundable one night's stay deposit in advance).  This hotel was very nice and was only $79 per night.

I had breakfast in the lobby and headed to the airport at about 0800 for a 0830 interview.  There were already several interviewees waiting by the SIDA door so we all chatted until Dave (DCA Chief Pilot) came to get us.  (Those of us from out of town had our roll-aboards and there was a secure room inside the AWAC offices that we could "park" them until the interviews were over)  They were expecting 14 interviewees, but only 10 showed up that day.  Dave was extremely nice and friendly and took us to a conference room in their DCA offices for a general briefing about the interview process, the company and the pilot training process as well as pilot benefits and highlights of the contract. They said that there are now 4 weeks of training in Appleton, WI instead of the previous two weeks there.  Also, they announced that LGA and RDU were two new bases and that all new hires would be filling one of those bases.  We were briefed by HR and by the DCA Chief Pilot.

Everyone was assigned an interview time after the overall briefing and, because the PHL Chief Pilot, Eddie, was also there - they did two interviews simultaneously - with a Chief Pilot and an HR Representative.  The interview was very much like those described in previous gouges.  They asked: Max A/S in Class C? And, at what alt. does the speed restriction end in Class B airspace?  What is needed to descend below D/A?  If you are flying 121, can you take off from an airport when the current weather is below landing min's?  How your current boss would describe you and what would he/she say needs improvement? What is "BR" in a Metar?  What makes a good airline pilot in your opinion?  What will be your biggest challenge at training for AWAC?  What can AWAC offer you?  Why do you want to work for AWAC? What is your leadership style?  What are you most proud of professionally?  Describe any safety/emergency situation you were in and how you handled it.  Also a situational question involving decision making.

The entire interview lasted about 15 minutes and everyone was so nice and friendly that it  helps you to relax.  (No grilling!)  I was on an 11 AM flight back home.  I am very excited to have the opportunity to fly for such a great company with an awesome reputation.  Good luck to everyone!
