FREE Mesa Pilot Interview Information and Gouge

Interview experience:
Hi ALL!!!!!!! Well what can I say that you all have not heard yet? NOT a THING:-) but here goes anyway. My day started out at 0800 on the 9th of Jan 2008. We went to the 3rd floor to a conference room with approx 15 to 25 chairs and tables, there the ATP test was given. Straight out of the Gleim (The RED BOOK) word for word. No Graphs or Figures. I would study a little more that Chapters 1 & 3 though, because I saw some questions from the weather portion; aerodyanamic portion; Part 121 portion etc. So just to be safe, study everything that doesn't have graphs on it, just in case the test changes monthly, hey it can't hurt, because you are going to have to study the test anyway, so hit 2 birds with 1 stone. The history of the company briefing (China & Hawaii Deal). Told us about bigger and better aircraft MIGHT be coming in the future. I am talking about 737 bigger better. A deal for larger aircraft were on the table, but it feel through for what ever reason, so at least you know that they are not against get bigger equipment like some of the other carriers are.

They also had us to carry all of our documents to the back to be reviewed, i.e. Log books; medical; FCC; etc.  Now here is where everything is going to hit the fan for all of you MESA HATERs out there, but hey this web site is for information and opinions, so I don't expect everyone to see eye to eye on everything.

1st of all, I don't have anything but GREAT THINGs to say about the interviewers and the company. After reading some of the posting on here, it's fair to say that a lot of people do not like this airline for what ever reason (To each it's own). But to comment on the Training Contract,  they do charge (prorated) you if you jump ship before your 12 months are up, and to be honest with you, I would too. How does this sound, I hire pilot "A" when no one else would because of his time or experience. My instructors burn the midnight oil to get this guy or girl up to Part 121 Speed, which equates to $5,000 to $25,000 (dollars). Then I fly you for 100 per month, and you get your required time within 4 months, so you decide to say SCREW YOU BUDDY, it's time to move on to bigger and better things. Now unless your last name is Gates or Buffet or Trump, 25 Gs is a whole lot of money to be investing not to get anything back in return (This AINT NO CHUMP CHANGE). So if you have it like that, I take donations also, my student loans are deep. But back to the lecture at hand. To make a long story short, I am not one of these wishy washy guys that throw a bad name on the company because I did not get hired or speak great things about a company because they did hire me. As you well see, I have not heard from them yet, so I don't know what the outcome will be, I am just speaking the truth.

During the Q & A portion with the interviewers, me and another guy laid all of the cards on the table with the future of the company; pay issues; why Mesa is not liked; etc. I was very pleased with the answers. So just like a few other comments on this page said, Hey,,,,JUST GO IN THERE WITH AN OPEN MIND. Don't let no one cloud your opinion on this comany, because Mesa is just as good if not better as the next one. I mean, they pay you during training unlike another company. They have great equipment to fly, even though it's not a MD-11 or 737, but what do you expect, this is not FedEx or SouthWest, so a CRJ900 or ERJ145 is just as good for now. You must crawl before you can walk.

After the Q & A, everyone left the room to go to the lobby, waiting to be bought in one by on for the interview. The usual, 1.) Why Mesa 2.) What makes a good leader 3.) Captain come in the flight station smelling like Gin & Juice, what are you going to do? 4.) Have you ever failed a checkride 5.) Do you have any DUIs or DWIs or something that will pop up in your background check 6.) Read this METAR for EUG 7.) Read this TAF 8.) Would you need a Alternate for this TEMPO, know your 1-2-3 Rule 9.) Have you ever violated any FARs 10.) What equipment would you want to fly 11.) What base would you pick 12.) Give 3 good traits about yourself (Heck, don't be B.S. ing the Lady or Man with I do 2,000 hours per week of community service, believe me, they have interviewed quit a few people in their day, so they can see right through the off the wall comments.

The biggest things are be relaxed; ask questions during the briefing and the interview; get other opionions; be honest, if you don't know, you just don't know, it's okay. You are not going to know everything about everything. They just want to know if you are trainable or not.

Form your on opinion about this company, not because of hear say or me or who ever.

Now vacation was canceled until March 2008, but hey, this is why we are here, to fly, so the way that I look at it, you should be wanting to fly your behind off, the best they can get out of you is 100 hours per month, no more than 1,000 in a year. So You shouldn't be sitting around too much at the terminals because there are too many pilots, that is not the case here at all. I hope this helped out a little.

Just walk down the road/ path to see if it is dark yourself instead of  going off another Hiker's word, heck, that Hiker might be tired or half blind, so he may not see what you can see. Good Luck to ALL. Fly Safe
