John (JD) grabbed me for the SBI, and brought me to the hallway to introduce me to Chad (MD-11 guy) who would be my FO. We walked to a room down the hall, that had a static cockpit with 2 chairs facing the pedestal. On the left there is your display from the cockpit. At eyebrow level in the center in front of you is an automation panel that actually works and you will be flying as the captain (hdg, altitude, vert Spd, course). On the right (in front of FO) is the moving map display almost like a radar ATC vibe which actually works in tandem with the automation. Above the pedestal is a computer monitor with 6:00 countdown in large numbers. JD left the room and Chad explained to me that we are going to pretend we haven’t met and I’m to start the Captains brief. I introduced myself and asked how he was. He introduced himself for a few seconds and I asked where he was coming from. Then asked if he was fit to fly (rested, fed, ready), then explained the Safe, legal, efficient for about 45 seconds. Maybe 1.5 minutes captain brief and I was a little excited to care to get to know him better. Wrapped it up with “Excited to fly today, let’s get out to the jet.” He was very nice. Next he went to pull JD and another evaluator into the room. JD explained the whole situation in detail from the cockpit to the situation. There was paper and a No 2 pencil on the pedestal. I started drawing my battle board while he was talking and he said “Wow, you look like you know what you’re doing! But we will give you 6 minutes after I’m done explaining” so I put the pencil down to fully grasp everything. There is a...
