What is a squall line? A line of thunderstorms that forms along or ahead of a cold front that contains heavy precipitation, hail, frequent lightning, strong straight-line winds, and possibly tornadoes and waterspouts. Updrafts and wind shear can be expected.
What is an airmet? Airman's Meteorological Information is a concise description of weather phenomena referred to as Weather Advisories and broadcast over ATIS at ATC facilities that concerns the conditions that are occurring or may occur along an air route and may affect the safety of all aircraft. An AIRMET covers less severe weather than a SIGMET or a Convective SIGMET such as moderate turbulence, moderate icing, sustained surface winds of 30 knots or more, and widespread restricted visibility.
