These study guide questions were submitted by real pilots who actually interviewed with CommutAir

  1. Rate yourself 1-10
My goal is to perform among the best with commutair as a pilot. I will uphold the company policies and procedures to the highest standards. Always improving and learning to be the best pilot I can be for commutair.
Trick question, you don't want to rate yourself lower, neither higher. Say something in the lines that you are always striving to be the best on what you do and perfection is an ongoing process. "My goal is to be on the top in the first couple years with the company, for that, I will make sure to dedicated to learn the company polices, GOM, SOP and the airplane (EMB145) to the excellence."
  2. How did you hear about Commutair?
I heard about Commutair from ATP flight school and fellow flight instructors who have gotten jobs there.
This is fairly easy to answer, but make sure to mention your referral if you had one, so he/she can get the referral bonus.
  3. Why do you want to work for Commutair?
I have heard great things from CommutAir pilots, employees, and customers. Many of my fellow flight instructors have gotten jobs at CommutAir and I look forward to the opportunity to work for such a great airline.
Ultimately I would like to work for United Airlines. I feel that this company will help me achieve my lifetime goal.
Highlight the positives points about the company, make sure to avoid mentioning "money" or something not related with the job role.
  4. Have you ever been convicted of a crime?
    No.
Be honest on this question, they will know for sure if you had trouble with the law in the past. This is to try your honesty, because they probably already know the answer.
  5. Have you had an accident?
I have never had an accident but i have been in situations that required good judgment and aeronautical decision making to ensure safety of flight.
If you answer yes, make sure to have a good explanation.
  6. Tell me why I should spend the money to train you when we both know you could leave right away and go fly a regional jet.
Excellent question and fair. The same way we (pilots) could leave the company, the company could also discontinue the employment, however, they are investing a lot money in training, salary, paperwork, etc.. and from our side, we are investing time, dedication and mainly the willingness to join and fly for the company. So, with that being said, make sure to give them the assurance that you will not jump ship once you get your atp and type rating.
  7. What is the metar? and when is it issued?
METeorological Aerodrome Report - 2 types (routine and SPECI)
An aviation routine weather report issued at hourly intervals.
  8. What would your current students say about you if we talked to them?
  9. If you could change anything about yourself what would it be?
  10. What are some characteristics of an airplane loaded with an AFT CG?
Aft CG means you're a bit nose down to maintain level flight so results in higher cruise speed. It also means your angle of attack is lower and less load on the wing therefore the wing will stall at a lower speed not higher.
Increased stalling speed, unstable and a higher cruise power
Allows you to fly at a higher airspeed. It may be difficult or impossible to recover from a stall or spin.
