  • First interview happened about 2 weeks after application. Went well. Wanted to know why Cathay. Where would you live in HK and costs etc. Do research as HK is quite expensive if you don't normally live in a city like New York or Sydney etc. Month later Day 1 sim assessment in Hong Kong. Study the profile you are given and practice. Sim aircraft got assigned 7 days before assessment. A few flight simulator sessions go a long way. Half the people failed the sim ride but those who had...

Everything till final assessment call was straight forward. I was assigned 747 a week before sim. Definitely needs a lot of practice for candidates with no turbine or jet experience. Make sure to prep well before applying at Cathay. Take off - Clean up - turns - ILS - Go Around - Engine fire - ILS. Sim is exactly as per...

3 Day process in Cathay City. (view the study guide of this website, including the Sim/Scenario section).  The second day is interview and document check. For the interview, you will get a random assortment of technical and HR questions. The main assessment is to see how you deal with pressure, and to see if you can apply your knowledge in an unfamiliar setting, so make sure you properly understand your aircraft, and the aircraft you are applying for. I did not know everything they...

I had my assessment last week. Sim is done as briefed. Mine was on B777 as 4 of us had Boeing experience. It’s very important for you to communicate in the sim and try to maintain a good crm. Flight parameters deviation seems okay if you are keeping the other pilot informed and you are correcting. example being i climbed too high on departure but corrected it. They will give you two or three little prompts but expect to be solo/PIC. The B777 300 sim is extremely sensitive, fly by...

The online interview is easy. First a self introduction. Then followed by some basic questions about you and questions about how much you know about the airline and HK. It is about 30 minutes. The HR was very nice and friendly. I think it is easy to pass this. After passing this, then I am invited to have the assessment in HK. I failed on the simulator part. It was on B777 simulator. It was a bit heavy for me. And make sure you prepare well for this. It is harder than I...

Be punctual for your initial video interview. Basic HR Questions about you, Cathay, and Hong Kong life. Why you’re leaving your company etc. took about 2 weeks to get invited for a sim assessment. Sim is as the profile says, more challenging than anticipated. First time on fly by wire so I was overcorrecting the entire time, expect memory items and checklists on your part, do your own call-outs,...

Simulator easy, straight forward. It is the panel interview that failed most people. Totally 7 candidates on the day at beginning. 5 passed the sim. Then on the 2nd day, out of the 5 only 2 passed the panel interview. The panel interview included a large number of HR question and technical question, very in depth. And I could only reapply after 1 year. If there is my word for future candidates on the same DESO position. Firstly those two who eventually passed has less experience than I do,...

Applied end of last year. Heard back after a week to apply for the A321 direct entry. (A320 Type rated already 200 hours but last flight 6 months ago). Resubmitted on beginning of this year and invited for an initial interview a week later and scheduled for the end of  the month. Didn't hear anything back for 2 weeks and I followed up with them via email. Invited back for final assessment the following day. (mid last month) Final assessment was scheduled for mid this month. In between...

Day 1- sim assessment exactly same profile as briefing guide,  (Pass first day you go to day 2) Day 2 - Panel interview?HR takes your documents, and review it. Starts with introducing yourself, why did you become interested in aviation, why become a pilot, what is the latest news about cathay, why cathay pacific, what is the culture at Cathay, what is culture different than where you are from, why not Emirates or other company. What plane do you want to fly, if we give you a321 what...

Great experience, 3 day process, first day is SIM, the usual Cathay profile on the 777 (others get A330) no tricks besides an engine fire (which is hinted in the profile) and asking course and radial to to airport. If you pass that they invito you to the panel interview day 2. Interview is 70% HR (introduce yourself, why Hong Kong, why cathay, strengths, weaknesses, experience, family joining, fleet, routes, aircraft orders, currents company news, etc) then 30% technical around your plane,...
